I've used this thread to affix ribbons and elastics to my daughter's first pair of pointe shoes. On her second pair, I used it to darn, using chain stitches, the pointe of her shoes. The thread is remarkably thick and it is a beautiful colour. The colour matches my daughter's Bloch Serenade pointe shoes quite well. When doing the ribbons and elastics, I found that using the Freed of London pointe shoe darning thread is softer on the fingers and is less inclined to tangle and I prefer it for the ribbons and elastics. But since the thread is waxed, I opted to use it for the tip of my daughter's second pair of shoes. She hasn't danced with them yet, as I just finished preparing them. Darning pointe shoes is difficult. I can't really tell if this thread made it easier or harder to do because I am so inexperienced. The needles that come with this are strong and straight, but the eyelet is very large and I'm certain that if I used it to darn the pointe tip, I would have torn the satin. Incidentally, the needle I did use did not tear the satin, but at the end of the second shoe, the tip broke off and got lost in a part of the satin of her shoe. So, it is a difficult choice, really. This kit comes with very simple and easy to use instructions to prepare the ribbons and the elastics. Overall, a good product and I am certain I will use it again, but I am inexperienced, so please read my review with that in mind. Thanks!
