We have done our best to balance manufacturer suggested sizing with our own customer's fitting experience to provide a consolidated sizing guide to help determine your correct size. Please note that our product sizing recommendations are to be used as a guide, as the actual fit may vary and we cannot guarantee our recommendations will be accurate for everyone. It is important to make sure pointe shoes are always fitting correctly to ensure that you are supported and safe while dancing. Follow these simple steps to check the fit on your new shoes.
Find a place near a mirror where you can see your feet. Stand only on a clean surface to protect the satin of the shoes. Gently loosen the drawstring of the pointe shoes so it moves freely inside its casing. Put on your pointe shoes and adjust the drawstrings and tie them in a shoelace knot. Make sure to try your pointe shoes on with all of the padding products and dance tights that will be used while dancing in them. It will be best to try them on with the support of a barre, and easy access to a mirror to help see your feet.
Standing in second position, take a deep plié. In plié make sure you can feel all your toes sitting flat in the shoes. Bending down, insert your finger into the top of the shoe over your toes. You should only be able to get the tip of your finger inside the shoe. If your finger goes in easily, the width and profile is too wide. If you can’t fit your finger in at all, and see your foot “puffing” up over the top of the shoe, the shoe is too narrow. It is important to have the correct width in order for the foot to sit properly in the shoe en pointe. It is also good to remember pointe shoes get wider as they break in. So it is important to have them as fitted as possible without being too tight.
Drag your finger inside the top of shoe along to your pinky toe. Here you will be able to feel where the stiff wing of the shoe ends on your foot. For a proper wing fit, your pinky toe metatarsal should be entirely encased in the wing. If the wing is ending before or cutting into the pinky metatarsal joint, the wing is too short to support the foot properly.
From your pinky toe joint, continue dragging your finger, inside the shoe, along the outside of the foot towards your heel. In a proper length you should only be able to get your finger in the small space between your ankle joint and heel. If you are able to drag your finger all the way around your heel, the shoe is too long. Standing in second you should also feel your toes all the way to the end of the shoe and touching. Your toes should steel feel straight.
Standing parallel with your feet together, press one foot up en pointe, making sure to press correctly through the ankle. Next roll the heel of the shoe down and off your foot, so your heel is exposed. Bend down and check that the shank (the end of the sole) is ending in line with or lower than your heel. If the shank extends pass your heel, the shoes are too long.
Now stepping up onto both feet, feel if the shank stays in line with the center of your foot, or if it twists off to one side. The right fit will stay centered and aligned with your foot. If the shank is twisting, this indicates you may need a wider fit or longer wings.
Standing parallel with your feet together, press up through both feet to en pointe. Carefully repeat this step in parallel and in first position being mindful of feeling for any movement in the shoes. You should feel lifted and supported on all sides on the shoe. There should be no sliding or “sinking” down into the shoe as you roll up onto pointe.
It is always a good idea to show your pointe shoes to your dance teacher for approval on fit before sewing ribbons and elastics.
Remember that pointe shoes are meant to be extremely fitted, and will become larger as they break in. Never sacrifice safety for comfort by wearing a shoe that is too large.

Each shipping option will have a discounted real time cost that will vary depending on what is being shipped and where the shipment is going. Along with the shipping cost will display the estimated shipping times of your order. Please keep in mind that these times are the estimates once your order has shipped from our warehouse and does not include the usual one business day to pack and process your order.
Online orders being exchanged will be mailed back to you free of charge via Canada Post Expedited Parcel for Canadian bound exchanges only. If you are exchanging an item please include the item, size, and colour you would like to exchange for. As soon as we receive the original item you are exchanging at our warehouse we will ship out the exchange to you free of charge. The only provinces currently excluded from free exchanges are Northwest Territories and Nunavut. The only product currently excluded from free exchanges are Rac n Roll dance bags. Exchanges for international orders will be charged for the return postage.
We are happy to provide free in store pickup on any online order from our Toronto store location. You will receive an email once your order has been pulled and is ready for pick up. Please schedule to pick up your order within two weeks of being notified.
Orders ship out from our warehouse in Toronto each week day. Orders will usually dispatch from our warehouse in 1 - 2 business days after it has been placed. If there are any discrepancies with your order, you will be contacted immediately to confirm any adjustments to your original order.
Once your order has been shipped you will receive an email notification which will include your shipment’s tracking number. If you have made an account with dancewearcentre.com you can also log in and view your recent order information to retrieve your order’s tracking number there as well.
Any special order item that is ordered will be placed on back order. You will be contacted within 1 business day of receiving your order to provide an estimate as to when your item will be in stock to ship. Special Order items can take an estimated time of 1-5 weeks to receive in our warehouse depending on the supplier. Guidelines on the each supplier’s shipping time frame can be found on the individual product page. Out of stock items will ship to you within 1 business day of arriving at our warehouse. Orders containing both in stock and special order items can be shipped complete, or you can choose to have the in stock items ship first. Please note that extra shipping charges may apply to multiple shipments. Back orders can be cancelled at any time prior to the special order item shipping.
Orders can be shipped to the US and worldwide via Canada Post and FedEx. Real time shipping quotes will display during check out and are based on what was purchased and where the order is shipping to. All international orders are not charged tax by Dancewear Centre. Any shipment sent outside of Canada may be subject to your country's duties and taxes. These charges are separate from your transaction with Dancewear Centre and you will be responsible for all associating fees.
If you are not satisfied with the item you purchased just send it back to us. We accept returns within 30 days of the purchase date on items that are unused, in their original packaging and with all attached tags and boxes.
Just send the item(s) back to us via the mail with a copy of your invoice stating whether you would like to exchange the item for something else or return it for a refund. If you are exchanging an item please include the item, size, and color you would like to exchange for. As soon as we receive the original item you are returning in the mail we will ship out the exchange or credit back your card.
Items returned after 30 days of purchase, in used condition, or missing any of the original packaging will not be accepted. We do not accept returns on undergarments, tights, or sale items. Shipping charges will not be refunded on any returned or exchanged items unless the item is defective or if there was a shipping error.
Online purchases may be returned or exchanged in any of our store locations. Refunds will go directly to your credit card that was used in your online purchase and will not be given at the store.
